11th to 19th of February, 2022.
Jaqueline is very friendly and is always smiling. She show me her place and where I am sleeping. Unfortunately, the room itself is not heated but, at least, it is not so cold. The rest of the house has a central heating, only my room not. Sad.
This first day I don’t see much of her because she goes back to work when I arrive and later on she goes to spend the night with an elderly lady. It is a type of volunteer work she does. But before leaving, she asks me to pre-prepare the cannelloni for tomorrow lunch. I only have to add spinach to the vegan ricotta cheese she made it, and fill the cannelloni.
Next day I help her with a Valentine’s Day inside lunch, as they call. She will prepare the dishes to 4 guests who found about her on Facebook. They pay a certain amount plus tips. I think it is funny.
Preparing the dishes with her is very nice. We both know about cooking so we understand each other pretty well and fast. Even her friend, Emily, who also came to give an extra help, tell us that. We are a match in the kitchen. Actually, because of that, funny enough Jaqueline suggested that we take a food-truck and drive around the world cooking.
All the dishes we have for lunch are amazing! And the people who came are also pleasant. I worked the whole day, basically, but it worth it because it was such a different day / event, plus the next few days I would work a bit less than 5 hours anyway, so all good. Plus the food was so good!
Jaqueline is always preparing some delicious dishes for us! Oh! I forgot to tell you: for the Valentine’s Day lunch she also made a vegan salmon on toast. She uses carrots, marinated for a few days in a lovely sauce plus she had them on Nori too, for the fishy taste. It was just mind blowing! But back to the cooking, yeah, amazing dishes and deserts, actually she made me my first bread pudding: yummy! You can see it on the featured photograph. I also cooked a little bit.
I mostly helped her with moving out stuff from her garage to another place down in the garden, which I had cleaned and organized previously. I also sorted jars and its lids, which was funny. I did also some tidying up on the outside rooms. Nothing much.
I was daily walking her two super cute dogs, who I miss so much, and who have a lot of personality. Funny fact was with one of Jaqueline’s cats. They are siblings, but the girl is very easy going, while the boy was super scared of me, not showing up at all and running away at my sight for the first 3 days. Slowly, little by little, he became used to me and even climbed on my lap. Unfortunately that was by the time I was about to leave.
The only day I planed to go around to explore the area, the weather turned out badly. But the whole area is beautiful! On my walks, I took some of the marked trails and they are so nice and green! I loved!
On the day of my departure, Jaqueline drives me to a spot on the way to Brussels.
